GARY GRIFFITHS

Born in Pembrokeshire, Gary has lived in North Wales throughout his adult life. A self-taught watercolour artist he retired four years ago to focus on painting and his work is displayed in galleries across Wales and in Ireland.

Whilst practising traditional watercolour techniques that exploit the transparency of the medium, he is also drawn to exploring depths of colour and tonal contrasts. Constantly learning and experimenting his works capture transient moments in the timeless drama of the landscape of Wales and Ireland. Much of his recent work portrays vernacular buildings that are a link to our heritage and the not-so-distant past. In his work the very process of painting leads into making discoveries and remaining open to unforeseen directions signposted by the medium itself.

He is a member of the North Wales Society of Fine Art and The Royal Watercolour Society of Wales
